EHHS Doctoral Alumna Receives AERA Award

Congratulations to Joanna Dickert, Ph. D., the 2022 recipient of American Educational Research Association's Advanced Studies of National Databases Special Interest Group Dissertation award.

Previously a student in the School of Foundations, Leadership and Administration, Dickert's dissertation is titled "An Examination of the Effects of Participation in High-impact Practices Using Propensity Score Analysis with Structural Equation Modeling."

The national competition included applicants who graduated between Jan. 1,  through Dec. 31, 2021, and used national or international databases in their dissertation study.

AERA is a national research society that strives to advance knowledge about education, encourage scholarly inquiry related to education, and promote the use of research to improve education and serve the public good.

Mandy Ulicney transitioned from a successful career as a club manager to teaching at Kent State's School of Hospitality because she wanted to help students discover the same passion for the industry that drives her. As faculty advisor for Kent State's student chapter of the Club Management Association of America, she has cultivated deep partnerships with industry leaders across Greater Cleveland.

Iyanuoluwa Olalowo, a graduate assistant at the Child Development Center on the Kent Campus, received a doctoral research grant for early childhood education.

Professor Sonya Irving received Kent State University's Gold Teaching Recognition Award.
