We’ll cover tuition for up to four years for qualified Ohio students.

The Flashes Go Further Scholarship helps make free tuition possible by covering the gap between your grants and scholarships and the full cost of tuition. It’s part of our commitment to making college more affordable and accessible for Ohio students pursuing their first bachelor’s degree.

Frequently Asked Questions

How do I apply for Flashes Go Further?

You don’t need to submit a separate application for the Flashes Go Further Scholarship. If you're eligible, the scholarship is automatically applied to your student account.

Here's how to be considered:

Enroll full-time at the Kent Campus (minimum of 12 Kent Campus credit hours per semester).

Submit the FAFSA for the current academic year.

Meet all eligibility criteria.

Kent State automatically reviews all eligible students and notifies recipients through their Kent State email.

How is my Flashes Go Further Scholarship amount determined?

Your Flashes Go Further Scholarship is determined by calculating the gap between your tuition charges and the tuition-specific financial aid you receive. Here's how it works:

1. Your Instructional Tuition Fee and General Tuition Fee are added together.

2. Then, your tuition-specific aid is subtracted, including:

Federal and state grants and scholarships

Kent State merit scholarships, tuition waivers and tuition-specific grants

100% tuition-covered veteran’s benefits

External scholarships or grants specifically designated for tuition

3. The remaining amount is your Flashes Go Further Scholarship.

If your remaining tuition balance is between $1 and $199, you’ll still receive a minimum award of $200.

Important Notes:

If your tuition-specific aid already covers your full tuition, you won’t receive Flashes Go Further.

Your award may be reduced or canceled if your schedule, enrollment status or tuition charges change.

You must meet all eligibility requirements and submit your FAFSA each year.

The Flashes Go Further Scholarship cannot be applied to housing, meal plans, career services fees, program fees, special course fees, distance learning course fees, legal services fees, flight fees, lab fees, book fees or study abroad fees.

Is the Flashes Go Further Scholarship renewable?

Students may receive the Flashes Go Further Scholarship for up to eight semesters (four academic years). To remain eligible, students must:

Maintain annual enrollment and financial eligibility, including meeting Satisfactory Academic Progress.

Be enrolled in at least 12 Kent Campus credit hours each semester.

File the FAFSA annually and complete any requests from the Office of Scholarships and Financial Aid.

Have a family income below $75,000 as reported on each year’s FAFSA. Students with income between $75,001 and $100,000 may qualify for a reduced award (up to $2,000).

Use the scholarship during fall and spring semesters only, with the option to apply one semester of eligibility to a summer term.
