Spring 2025 marked another exciting chapter for the Community Health Worker Training programs at Kent State University. Which skills are needed for success?

  • Comfort with numbers and data
  • Technical aptitude (no need to be a programming or statistics pro, but some proficiency is extremely useful)
  • Openness to learning and collaboration
  • Interest in making data actionable 

Michelle offers some advice for this aspect as well, stating, 鈥淒on鈥檛 let the lack of an analytics background hold you back. If you are curious, motivated, and willing to learn, you already have what it takes to succeed.鈥

When I completed my associate degree in human services, I really wanted to pursue my bachelor鈥檚 degree and looked into doing it elsewhere, but the challenges of doing it outside of Ashtabula made that dream seem far-fetched. But then this program came along just at the right time, accessible to anyone in my community, including me, and was the perfect fit for someone who wanted to make a difference in their community and in people鈥檚 lives.
