The National Collegiate Honors Council鈥痟as announced Kent State University鈥疕onors College鈥痝raduate Serene (Hawes) Montgomery as a 2023 Portz Scholar. Montgomery is the 11th honors student from Kent State to be named a Portz Scholar since the national competition began in 1990.鈥 鈥淓ach鈥
Bill Hoover, 鈥71
Amid the tremendous cultural change unfolding in the early 1970s, Bill Hoover, 鈥71, co-founded the Kent Gay Liberation Front with Dr. Dolores Noll and Gail Pertz, to foster a community for LGBTQ+ individuals and their supporters.
The Kent State University Alumni Association Announces New Members For Its National Board of Directors
The following new members have been appointed to the Kent State Alumni Association National Board of Directors for a three-year term, which began July 1: Jeff Guritza, of Brecksville, Ohio, is the vice president of marketing at SOPREMA USA. He earned a Bachelor of Science in Public Relations from Kent State in 1994.

Katie Carpenter, 鈥23, has a passion for photography, and The Wallace J. Hagedorn Scholarship has helped her hone these skills and express her creativity. This competitive photography scholarship supports student costs and helps them pursue out-of-classroom experiences to develop strong portfolios. 鈥
Scolin MacLean, 鈥90, Turns His Love of Athletics into Philanthropy
鈥淚 look at Kent State as a family member 鈥 everyone collectively 鈥 that I am connected to and plan to be for as long as I possibly can. I have family members that I want to take care of, and I want to do the same for Kent State.鈥 Scolin MacLean鈥檚, 鈥90, passion for Kent State only rivals his love 鈥
