Brandon Lazenko, ’16, found a way to provide an unusual opportunity for Kent State film students to learn outside of the classroom through his upcoming project, He and fellow Kent State graduate Shelby Wyant, ’18, wrote the 40-minute film adapted from Stephen King’s short story “Nona.” The alumni pair got permission to create their adaptation of the short story from King and his team through his Dollar Baby Program. “October Roses” follows a down-on-his-luck professor who meets a beautiful woman while hitchhiking around Maine. He gets wrapped up in her web and makes decisions he normally wouldn’t make. His team for the film includes Kent State students who are helping on set, horror special effects icon Robert Kurtzman and his wife Marcy King who are both Ohio natives. However, Brandon’s experience in film didn’t begin with “October Roses.” He’s also created two miniseries and four short films, including the award winning “A Serpent by the Nest.”

Gov. DeWine Declares October Ohio Employee Ownership Month With Proclamation Recognizing OEOC at Kent State

Ohio Gov. Mike DeWine and Lt. Gov. Jon Husted recently issued a joint proclamation recognizing the impact that employee-owned companies have on Ohio’s economy as well as the work of the Ohio Employee Ownership Center (OEOC) based at Kent State University, which requested the proclamation. The OEOC has served as a nonprofit outreach center providing support, resources and assistance to businesses since 1987.

Important Information about Final Grading of Fall 2022 First 7 Weeks Classes

Online final grading for Fall 2022 First Seven Weeks (POT W1) begins Monday, Oct. 10, via FlashFAST. Grading is also now available for any Fall 2022 course section that was flexibly scheduled. The deadline for grading submission is midnight on Sunday, Oct. 16. Any final grades for Fall 2022 courses not reported in FlashFAST by the grades processing deadline will have to be submitted using the Grade Change Workflow.

Professor Scores Big With Short Film, Book

Scott Hallgren, associate professor in the School of Media and Journalism, teaches several classes in digital media production with a focus on sound in picture. He recently showcased his skills outside the classroom by composing the score for a local short film while also releasing his first book.
