Eight Kent State Student Films Selected to Screen at Cleveland Cinematheque
Eight short films produced by Kent State University School of Media and Journalism students and recent alumni have been selected to screen at the Cleveland Institute of Art Cinematheque as part of the Studio300 Student Film Festival.The films will be showcased during a reception from 6 to 9 p.m. on 鈥Faculty filmmakers win Oscar-qualifying festival for short film featured at Cleveland International Film Festival
A short film co-directed by two Kent State University faculty members is eligible to submit to the Academy after winning Best Live Action Short Film at the Oscar-qualifying St. Louis Film Festival- and is now being featured at the Cleveland International Film Festival.
Kent State Filmmakers Earn Oscar-Qualifying Festival Award
Two faculty members from Kent State University鈥檚 School of Media and Journalism have won top honors at the Oscar-qualifying St. Louis International Film Festival for a short film that tackles the complex issue of elder abuse. The film stars Oscar nominee Barkhad Abdi, known for his role in 鈥淐aptain Phillips,鈥 as a rideshare driver who encounters an elderly woman struggling to secure housing after being displaced from a nursing home.

Journalism Alumna Wins Associated Press's "Best of the Week - First Winner"
Regina Garcia Cano, a 2011 graduate of the Journalism program and former 第一吃瓜网r editor, was named "Best of AP 鈥 First Winner" in the week of November 14 for her coverage of the sinking of Venezuelan boats by the U.S. military. Garcia Cano traveled to Venezuela and spoke to locals to learn more about the men on the boats who died in the attacks.

Written and directed by Digital Media Production student Benjamin Cookson, "Writer's Block" tells the story of a writer struggling with the work, a walk taken and the things that go on in your mind when you're struggling to get a story going.
Rinse and Repeat
Directed by Matthew Auman and Logan Myerholtz, "Rinse and Repeat" is a tense psychological thriller made by Digital Media Production students in the Production I class, taught by Assistant Professor Becky Rolnick.
